Metropolitano de São Paulo

The company Metropolitano de São Paulo - Metro was founded on April 24, 1968. In 1972, the first train trip occurred between Jabaquara and Saude stations.

Functional since September 14, 1974, Metro has an extension of 60.5 km railway tracks distributed into four lines and linking 54 stations. São Paulo Metro is in charge of Metro operation and expansion, a high capacity and interlinking system for mass transport in Metropolitan Area.

Everyday, the Metro transports 2.5 million people. It has become the fastest and cheapest means of transport. One can quickly reach his/her work place in the minimum time possible. The Metropolitan Transports Secretariat is part of the infrastructural area of the state government, along with the Secretariats of Electric Energy, Environment, Water Resources and Transports.

Metro started in 1999 in accordance with the international quality management standards, specifically the series of ISO 9000 standards. The first certification was obtained on 11/21/2000, that of the Rolling Stock Maintenance Process of Lines 1- Blue, 2- Green and 3- Red.
