It takes you back to the past. This building is a remainder of the last half of 18th century. In 1834 it was acquired by D. Maria Domitilia de Castro Canto and Mello, the Marquesa de Santos, who transformed it into one of the residences.

This is the most aristocratic house of São Paulo, renamed as Palacete of the Carmo. Though it has undergone extensive renovations, it has retained much of its original charm. From 1975, it started to shelter the activities of the City department of Culture. In 1991, it again underwent a process of restoration of the walls, paintings walls, doors, windows, linings, façades, covering and illumination. It was completely revamped.

Till date, Solar of the Marquesa is one of the seminal points of the village of São Paulo. Various activities are carried out here: Permanent and temporary expositions, consult to the Archive of Negatives, Project 3ª Age, Educative Service. All activities are directed to the preservation of the historic site.
