Museu Arte Brasileira

This majestic museum contains a huge collection of works from the Renaissance to Modern Contemporary art.

The museum is quite different from the classical museums. Here, paintings are displayed differently than in most classical museums. They are hung from the ceiling and arranged in rows; the visitor walks through an "avenue" of masterpieces displayed on either side.

The museum is very unique as it not only displays Brazilian art, but an ever- changing parade of grand international exhibits. Some time back, it showcased the works from Egypt. The grand hall and both wings of the museum are transformed for each new exhibit. The museum also displays a number of the Brazilian greats - - Portinari, Di Cavalcanti and others.

The museum is definitely worth a visit as it gives a rare opportunity to see high- quality works of art and become more involved with art in a variety of ways, stimulating artistic activity and establishing a firmer base for the growth of art and culture in the city.
