Though 3work is still in progress, the Tomie Ohtake Cultural Institute is one of São Paulo's main attractions for art- lovers.
The majestic museum is a result of the zealous efforts put in. A visit to the museum is a projection of the city' history and culture. The traffic- stopping building at the end of Avenida Faria Lima, with its wavy blue and maroon walls and giant looming tower, cost almost 10m reais.

The building itself is a wonder to behold. Mrs. Ohtake's two sons have greatly contributed in the construction of the museum. Ruy designed the building and Ricardo, is the institute's director. Besides exhibiting Mrs. Ohtake's abstract paintings and engravings, the gallery also has space for temporary shows by other artists. The construction of the art museum was designed for international, cultural and artistic exchange. The purpose is to collect, preserve and exhibit works of art with a focus on the contemporary work.

The institute's café offers a fine salad buffet and an à la carte menu. Here you can partake numerous mouth watering delicacies. The centre's 720- seat theatre opened this year. The theater can be seen with loads of music and dance.
